Kip and Nicole Macy, a California couple deemed the "Landlords of hell," were sentenced to four years in prison for menacing their tenants, according to authorities.

The Macys, who owned and managed an apartment building in San Francisco, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to two counts of residencial burglary, stalking and attempted grand theft.

The San Francisco District Attorney's Office demanded the couple be sentenced to four years and four months in state prison on Aug. 22.

The landlords' actions toward their tenants were dubbed "insane" by the district attorney and ranged from cutting holes in the living room floor with a power saw; soaking the victims' beds, clothes and electronics with ammonia; sending fraudulent emails to their victims' attorneys and threatening them at gunpoint.

"The actions of these defendants are so outlandish and brazen that it sounds like the plot line of a horror movie," district attorney George Gascon said in a statement. "This case shows you you cannot flee this country and avoid the consequences of your actions. These defendants will be held fully accountable for their crimes."

All events took place from September 2005 to December 2007. The couple was charged with the felonies in April 2008, but they posted bail and fled to Italy. They were apprehended and extradited back to the United States by Italian authorities in May 2013.
