'My only best friend' and guru in life

By Ammar Turabi

WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Arnaud de Borchgrave was my only best friend -- a term of endearment we shared -- who became my guru in life in the most subtle way. He was always there to improve and enhance my life. I am grateful for the time he spent reviewing my objectives and goals, and for his valuable advice that gave me a new perspective in life.

For instance, I had been striving for perfectionism and as a result devoted my precious time on details by dwelling on things. My guru identified this as a weakness and advised me that it is futile to spend time trying to do everything perfectly. Rather, he advised me to be more assertive and to do what is necessary. Now I focus on the present and do everything to the best of my abilities.

Another daily practice he recommended is to review all tasks daily and take corrective action. Another weakness I had was procrastination; he provided the keys and ways for overcoming procrastination.

He helped me create a personal system of constant checks and balances. I will continue to practice the disciplined principles and strategies I have acquired over the more than 15 years that we closely worked together. It goes without saying that during this great association we have discovered extraordinary places and people, produced many investigative reports and documented realities not heard before.

Few people die to live forever. Arnaud, my only best friend, is second to none out of those few. He will live eternally & spiritually forever, as he is much bigger than apparent life. As before, my journey will continue with his company, as a constant factor of inspiration & guidance.

He shared with me, in the last year, the challenges he faced in his battle for good health. He would normally appreciate the anticipation of discussing events days in advance. However, a couple of days before moving to the hospital, he told me on the phone "I might not be around in few days''.
