Nov. 18 (UPI) -- A scenic train struck and killed two people while traveling along the Cape Maine Line in Massachusetts on Saturday night.
At about 7:29 p.m. the conductor of the train notified Wareham Police the train had struck a 33-year-old female and a 36-year-old male, who were on the track, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said.
"The conductor made attempts to stop the train and activated the train's emergency braking system prior to impact," Cruz said.
About 355 people were aboard the "Train to Christmas Town" scenic train at the time of the crash and none of the passengers were injured or unaccounted for.
The train, which departed from Buzzards Bay, was carrying 100 first responders and their children, who were invited to board the train for a dress rehearsal, Cape Cod Central Railroad told The Boston Globe.
An investigation into the incident by State Police Detectives is ongoing.
