LONDON, March 29 (UPI) -- British police are investigating threats to kill BBC director-general Tony Hall after his decision to fire "Top Gear" host Jeremy Clarkson.
British newspaper The Mail on Sunday reported Hall, 64, and his wife Cynthia have reportedly been under 24-hour guard since the threats were made on Wednesday.
Scotland Yard confirmed it was looking into allegations made on Wednesday, when Hall confirmed he would not be renewing Clarkson's contract because of his attack on producer Oisin Tymon.
The "fracas" reportedly happened after Clarkson was angered when he was not served a steak dinner at a hotel. Tymon has also been sent death threats on Twitter after Clarkson's initial suspension and following his subsequent firing.
"Top Gear," is one of the most-watched television shows in the world. Clarkson had been the BBC's biggest star, earning more than $1.5 million a year. Now, his Twitter profile @JeremyClarkson reads simply "I used to be a presenter on the BBC2 motoring show, Top Gear."
Scotland Yard said no arrests have been made in the case.
