American NBC freelancer infected with Ebola flown to U.S. for treatment

Overall, Mukpo is the fifth American infected with the deadly disease.

OMAHA, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A freelance NBC News cameraman infected with the Ebola virus has been flown from West Africa to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for further treatment.

Ashoka Mukpo, a 33-year-old American, tested positive for Ebola on Thursday, just two days after he was hired to be second cameraman for NBC News' Chief Medical Editor and Correspondent Dr. Nancy Snyderman.

Snyderman got to talk with her would-be cameraman Sunday morning and described him as being in "great spirits." Mukpo's father, Dr. Mitchell Levy, echoed this sentiment, telling NBC News his son was "not that ill" after speaking with him.

Overall, Mukpo is the fifth American infected with the deadly disease.
