CHARLESTON, S.C., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. officials said Saturday they had joined the investigation into the fatal overnight crash of a medical helicopter in South Carolina.
The National Transportation Safety Board said in a written statement that a team of investigators was dispatched to the Charleston area where the chopper went down, killing the three crew members on board.
The Eurocopter AS-350 B2 operated by Omniflight Helicopters was being repositioned after dropping off a patient at Medical University of South Carolina.
The (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) Sun News said Saturday the aircraft lost contact with its base over a wooded area of Georgetown County around 11:15 p.m. EDT.
