Honduras to investigate Zelaya's gas claim

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Acting Honduran President Roberto Micheletti says he is sending investigators to the Brazilian Embassy to look into reports of a gas attack.

Deposed president Manuel Zelaya has been holed up in the embassy and this week complained to reporters that he had fallen ill to toxic gases as well as radiation waves.

Zelaya can't leave the embassy because he would face arrest on treason charges.

The Miami Herald said Saturday that Micheletti Friday denied the allegations and said "forensic doctors" would check out the reports.

The de facto president, who replaced Zelaya in June when the government kicked Zelaya out of the country, also told the Herald that no one who lives around the embassy had reported any effects that could have been linked to gas.
