Terror suspect flown back to New York

DENVER, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Federal marshals flew terrorism suspect Najibullah Zazi back to New York Friday, hours after a prosecutor alleged he had planned a Sept. 11 attack.

Zazi, who was arrested last weekend in Denver, landed at New Jersey's Teterboro Airport about 5:45 p.m., and New York police transported him by helicopter into the city, the New York Daily News reported.

At a court hearing in Denver Friday, Tim Neff, an assistant U.S. attorney, said Zazi planned to detonate a hydrogen peroxide bomb in New York on the anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks, the Denver Post reported.

"The evidence suggests a chilling, disturbing sequence of events showing the defendant was intent on making a bomb and being in New York on 9/11 for purposes of perhaps using such items," Neff said.

Federal Magistrate Judge Craig Shaffer ordered Zazi, 24, to be transferred to New York to face charges of conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction.

In court documents, FBI agents said they found bomb-making instructions on a laptop computer found inside a car rented by Zazi, 24, for a cross-country trip that ended in New York Sept. 9. Prosecutors also allege Zazi had traveled overseas to receive bomb-making instructions and bought materials needed to make a bomb.

Authorities allege Zazi fled to Colorado by airplane after being tipped off about the FBI's investigation. He was arrested in Aurora, Colo., last Saturday.

Zazi's attorney, Art Folsom, insists the fact no explosion took place in New York Sept. 11 is evidence his client is innocent, the Post reported.

"He was there on Sept. 11 -- the entire time on Sept. 11 and nothing happened," Folsom said.
