At least 16 dead in road accident in China

NANCHANG, China, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- At least 16 people died Saturday when a maintenance vehicle was rear-ended and plunged off a viaduct in China's Jiangxi province, officials said.

The maintenance vehicle was carrying 25 people when it was hit from behind by a truck on an expressway in Suichuan County, Xinhua, China's state-run news agency, reported.

An unspecified number of injured people were taken to local hospitals, rescue officials said.

The accident occurred on the highway linking Daqing City in northeast China's Heilongjiang province and Guangzhou, capital of southern Guangdong province.
