DETROIT, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Senior Detroit Fire Department officials said a firebombing of a local home left two young sisters on life support Wednesday.
Captain Steve Varnas of the Detroit Fire Department's arson unit told The Detroit News authorities are searching for a suspect identified as Brandon Jones, the former boyfriend of the injured girls' aunt.
"We're going to spend the rest of the day trying to track him down," Varnas said. "We're searching for certain kind of vehicle. We're going to type up a warrant and get him arrested."
Jones, whose age was not reported, was reportedly kicked out of the family's home prior to the firebombing.
The Detroit Free Press identified the two injured girls as Adrianna Thomas, 9 months, and her sister, Kyra Genis, 2. Both of the young girls suffered unspecified burns and smoke inhalation in the fire.
Neighbor Edwin James is credited with saving Thomas and two other children from the home during the early morning fire.
"I thank God for having me at the house so I could help," James, 34, told the Free Press. "I would help anyone I could -- that's how I am."
