Gospel singer admits sex assault on teen

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- A Minneapolis-area gospel singer has admitted sexually assaulting a girl who sang in a church choir he directed.

Gregory Washington, 33, of Plymouth, Minn., pleaded guilty Monday in Minneapolis to two counts of sexually assaulting the Brooklyn Park teenager, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. Under his plea agreement, he faces four years in prison and must register as a sex offender.

Washington served 120 days in jail on a previous conviction on a similar charge and was on probation at the time of the later crime.

His company, Miraculous Music, obtained contracts to teach in three Minneapolis elementary schools. Apparently, no background check was done on him before he was hired, the Star Tribune reported.
