NEW DELHI, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Terror groups based in Pakistan have become a greater threat to India since last November's Mumbai attacks, India's Home Minister said Monday.
Speaking at a meeting in New Delhi of police chiefs and intelligence officials, Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram specifically warned about the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Toiba, accused of masterminding the Mumbai attacks, the Press Trust of India reported.
"Terrorist groups including LeT and JeM persist in their endeavor to launch terror attacks," Chidambaram said. "They continue to innovate new ways and means of deniability. They find support among disgruntled elements within India."
He said cross-border terrorism "is a matter of deep concern" since the Mumbai carnage in which nearly 170 people died.
He said Indian agencies had neutralized 13 terror modules in the first six months of this year, PTI reported.
The minister also said the so-called Left wing extremism and insurgency in the country, claiming to be a radical form of Communism, are "adhering to this outdated ideology." He said these Maoists are seeking alliances with secessionist and terrorist elements in the country.
