Daughter allegedly killed sleeping father

MEMPHIS, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A Millington, Tenn., high school teacher allegedly was shot and killed by his 15-year-old daughter while he slept, police said.

Douglas Van Neste, 40, died early Monday at his home from shotgun wounds, Tipton County Sheriff J.T. Chumley said in a statement.

Van Neste's daughter, whose name was not released, was being questioned but had not been charged or arrested, The Memphis Commerical Appeal reported Tuesday.

Van Neste taught history at Munford High School.

"He was an outstanding guy; he was very enthusiastic about what he taught, " Thomas Walters, a Munford High teacher, said. "He loved history. He loved teaching history."
