Canadian Liberals to place Web ads

TORONTO, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Canadian Liberal Party members say they're getting ready to roll out ads on the social networking Web site Facebook.

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff has promoted the ads on his own Facebook and Twitter pages. They come after he announced the Liberals would not support Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives during the fall parliamentary session and were instead on a track to try to bring down his government, Canwest News Service reported Sunday.

The news service said the Conservatives will need the support of another party to keep from losing a confidence vote in the House of Commons, and with an Ekos poll last week indicating Conservatives and Liberals tied with 32.6 percent public support ratings, the Liberals are seeking to buoy their image. The party's showing was a significant improvement over results from a year ago when it trailed the Conservatives by 13 percentage points.

Canwest said with the current parliamentary alignment, the Conservatives will need the help of a single party, or 12 MPs, to avoid going down in a confidence vote.
