ATLANTA, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Police say the 80-year-old owner of an Atlanta Laundromat used a broom in a vain attempt to ward off a robber who shot her to death.
Surveillance video from the business showed Dooran Yoo trying to defend herself with a broom but did not capture any images of the killer.
Yoo was robbed of about $2 by the suspect who apparently had waited for her to open for the day and then forced his or her way inside.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Wednesday that the killing shocked the city's Adamsville neighborhood and brought many residents to a vigil at the scene Tuesday night.
"Everyone is shocked and devastated by this," said longtime customer Danjala Nelson. "They were nice people, very respectful."
The newspaper said Yoo would be buried this week at a cemetery next to her husband, whose remains were shipped to the United States from South Korea two years ago.
