Bay Area dad released in missing kid probe

FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A California man vowed to keep looking for his missing foster son after he and his fiancee were jailed for nearly a week in the boy's disappearance.

Louis Ross, 38, Fremont, said the days he spent at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin were "hell" and dismissed the ongoing police investigation into the disappearance of 5-year-old Hasanni Campbell as a waste of time.

"We are going to do what we need to do as parents," Ross said Tuesday night. "We don't care what (the police) do."

Ross and his fiancee, Jennifer Campbell, were arrested Friday as the investigation into the boy's Aug. 10 disappearance continued. The couple was ordered released by Alameda County prosecutors due to lack of evidence; however the Oakland (Calif.) Tribune reported Wednesday the investigation was continuing.

Ross has told police Hasanni vanished from behind the store where Campbell works, although the Tribune noted neighbors told authorities they had not seen the child for three weeks prior to his being reported missing.
