BRUSSELS, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Kosovo's president and prime minister walked out of European Union talks in the first such rift since Kosovo became independent last year, officials say.

The dispute that interrupted Thursday's Pristina session stemmed from ethnic Albanian fears about a new police cooperation agreement between EU's EULEX police mission and Serbia's Interior Ministry, the EU Observer said in a report from Brussels.

The agreement was designed to help EULEX and Serb police share information on cross-border organized crime. But Kosovo leaders said EULEX's direct dealing with Serbia undermines their attempt to establish a sovereign state.
