Abortion protest set for Nebraska clinic

BELLEVUE, Neb., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- An anti-abortion rights group says it is preparing for a Saturday demonstration outside the Bellevue, Neb. clinic operated by Dr. LeRoy Carhart.

The protest led by Operation Rescue comes less than three months after the fatal shooting of Kansas abortion doctor George Tiller at a church in Wichita, CNN reported Friday.

Operation Rescue President Troy Newman says Saturday's protest will be a peaceful one, adding he abhorred the killing of Tiller.

"Shooting someone in the head in a church is not a pro-life act," Newman said.

Saturday's protesters plan to park delivery trucks outside Carhart's clinic that have giant billboards on each side with pictures of dismembered fetuses.

They said they also plan to picket the clinic and canvass the neighborhood.

Carhart told CNN he has performed more than 60,000 abortions in the past two decades, 400 of them on women pregnant for more than 24 weeks.
