ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- An Interpol Red Corner Notice was issued against Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan, accused of masterminding the Mumbai terror attacks, sources told the Times of India.
The RCN, issued Tuesday, will make it difficult for Pakistan to let Saeed, who heads the Jamaat-ud-Dawa Islamic charity, to move about freely, the report said. However, it said an RCN is not an international arrest warrant and Interpol cannot force Pakistan to arrest Saeed.
Saeed has been charged in India with masterminding the attacks last November in India's financial capital of Mumbai in which more than 160 people died. He remains free in Pakistan after a court in Lahore released him in June, saying there was insufficient evidence to support his continued detention.
The Pakistan Supreme Court indefinitely adjourned hearing petitions for his re-arrest this month. Saeed has denied involvement in the Mumbai attacks.
The Times of India report said Interpol issues an RCN against any accused after receiving all information and evidence against that person from the country where the crime was committed.
Mumbai police say Saeed was one of 35 people who trained all the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attacks in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir region.
