BREASTON, England, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A British showjumper is wanted in Belgium for the theft of four horses from a Belgian stable, three of which are in Breaston, England, the owner said Sunday.
Joelle Triplot-Leonard, 50, reported four of her horses stolen in December.
An international arrest warrant was issued for Laura Newman, 30, who appeared Thursday at Horseferry Road Magistrates' Court in London. She was remanded in lieu of $33,074 bail, pending extradition, The Mail on Sunday.
Newman, a possible candidate for the 2012 Olympic team, denies stealing the horses.
Triplot-Leonard also accuses British stable owner Joan Whetter of Breaston, but Whetter has not been charged.
Police have issued a restraining order for the three horses at Whetter's farm. Whetter insists she bought all three from a Belgian horse dealer named Guy Jacobs.
Police would not say whether Jacobs was under investigation.
The horses are worth $248,056, Triplot-Leonard said. She said she doesn't know the whereabouts of the fourth horse and said the microchips embedded in the horses' necks for identification were removed to make positive identification difficult.
