10 Taliban said killed in missile strike

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- At least 10 Taliban militants were killed by a drone missile strike on a suspected stronghold in Pakistan's tribal areas, officials said Tuesday.

Pakistani officials said the militants were in a camp in South Waziristan, an area of the country's tribal region very near the Afghanistan border, Voice of America reported.

The area is also near the region where Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud is said to have been killed by a similar drone strike, VOA said. Those reports have been hotly disputed by militants, but Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik told VOA Monday there is credible intelligence confirming he was killed.

Malik said intelligence agents were working to get forensic proof of Mehsud's death.
