Polish thieves rob zoo store of tarantulas

WARSAW, Poland, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Police in Czestochowa, south Poland, are seeking information on who stole hundreds of tarantulas from a zoo store.

Police are looking for several hundred tarantulas, dozens of snakes and several kinds of lizards, whose trade is illegal and could cost a perpetrator up to five years in prison if the animals are sold without a certificate of origin, Polish Radio said Monday.

Czectochowa police said the tarantulas were not poisonous but are being sold as pets both to adults and children. Most species of tarantulas are harmless to humans.
