Police seek Fla. man in freezer body case

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Florida authorities are seeking a man they say killed a fellow marijuana grower, put his body in 4-foot-by-4-foot freezer and buried him in a yard.

An indictment was returned last week in West Palm Beach, Fla., against Jose Alfaro, 27, whom prosecutors say killed his onetime friend, Stephen Febonio, 45, of Boynton Beach, Fla., in 2007, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Monday.

Police said Febonio told his father on the day he disappeared that if he should not be heard from to read a note he had left in his room. On the note was the name of Alfaro and the address of a marijuana growing house in Delray Beach, Fla., the newspaper reported.

Authorities said a dispute had arisen between the two over the growing operation in August 2007, with Febonio contending Alfaro owed him $10,000 for the drywall work he performed.

Authorities found the buried freezer with Febonio's body March 16, the Sun-Sentinel said. Police said Febonio had befriended the alleged killer, once inviting him to his parents' house for Thanksgiving dinner.

Alfaro was questioned and released earlier, and now is on the run, authorities said.
