Two Gitmo Uzbeks to settle in Ireland

DUBLIN, Ireland, July 29 (UPI) -- Ireland says it will accept two inmates who will be transferred out of the Guantanamo Bay prison within the next couple of months.

The pair are believed to be from Uzbekistan and will be offered permanent residency in Ireland with the freedom to work and travel about, The Guardian reported Wednesday.

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern told the British newspaper the detainees would not be granted refugee status nor would any of their personal information be released to the public.

The two are among about 50 Guantanamo inmates the United States and Europe are seeking to resettle after the prison for suspected terrorists is shut down.
