PRINCETON, N.J., July 27 (UPI) -- Most Americans give the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NASA and the FBI credit for a job well done, a Gallup poll indicated Monday.

The three U.S. government agencies scored majorities who said they thought they were doing excellent or good jobs, with the CDC coming out on top with a 61 percent approval rating.

That contrasts with the Federal Reserve Board, which received a 30 percent job approval rating, last among nine government agencies included in the poll, Gallup officials said.

The two national security-oriented groups included in the poll -- the CIA and the Department of Homeland Security -- received moderate performance ratings, with just under half of respondents saying each is doing an excellent or good job.

Performing under those two agencies were the Environmental Protection Agency, Internal Revenue Service, and Food and Drug Administration, with about 40 percent of those asked giving each of them high approval marks.

Gallup officials said the results were based on telephone interviews with 1,018 adults conducted July 10-12, and carried a margin of sampling error of 3 percentage points.
