Israel's prisons offer online service

JERUSALEM, July 8 (UPI) -- Israel's Prison Service revamped its Web site to give contact information for prison wardens and show how visits to inmates can be booked online, officials say.

The new Web site is part of the prison service's attempts to improve its image, grant the public greater access and offer better service, the daily Maariv reported Wednesday.

Those seeking to make direct contact with a prison warden can locate the specific prison on a map displayed on the site's main page. After pressing an icon, a window pops up listing the name of the warden, direct telephone numbers, visiting hours and details of bus routes, the paper said. In some cases the mobile phone numbers of wardens are also published, the paper said.

Visits to inmates can also be made online after the name of the prisoner is punched in along with the date of the planned visit, the report said.

The IPS is responsible for 32 prisons and detention centers located throughout Israel.
