WASHINGTON, June 30 (UPI) -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's political action committee urged supporters to donate before the end of a six-month reporting period, observers said.
The e-mail that went out Monday soliciting donations to SarahPAC was the second online fundraising effort in June on behalf of the Republican governor, the Anchorage Daily News reported. A "webathon" earlier this month brought in more than $100,000 for the Alaska Fund Trust, which pays Palin's legal expenses.
Political action committees must file reports by July 31 for contributions during the first six months of 2009 -- the first full-six-month period after the 2008 presidential election. Palin is one of a number of Republicans trying to position herself for the 2012 race, the report said.
"With your help, we can take the governor's message and encourage others who also have hope and are firmly rooted in the conservative belief that you know how best to spend your money and not government," Meghan Stapleton, a spokeswoman for SarahPAC, wrote.
