GREENVILLE, Tenn., June 24 (UPI) -- Residents of a mostly black neighborhood in Tennessee say the Ku Klux Klan has been dropping off leaflets under cover of darkness.
They told WJHL-TV in Johnson City there have been two different fliers: "Wake Up White America & Take A Stand" and "10 Steps To A Better America." But the message is the same in both, denouncing interracial marriage and calling for a country safe for "white Christian children."
One of the homeowners in the Meadowlark subdivision in Greenville asked the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to investigate.
Greenville Police Capt. Terry Webb said no crime appears to have been committed, except littering. He said the Klan has a right to disseminate its views, however distasteful.
Edward Reed, who found one of the fliers on his lawn, takes a different view.
"It's a crime to me," Reed said. "That's like they don't want me living
the way I see I'm supposed to be living."
