Alleged cat killer arrested

PALMETTO BAY, Fla., June 14 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old Palmetto Bay, Fla., man was arrested Sunday for the mutilations and killings of 19 cats since April, police said.

Tyler Weinman, who lives in the area of the attacks, was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary, The Miami Herald reported, adding more suspects may be arrested.

Since April, 33 dead cats were reported to Miami-Dade police with 19 cats from Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay and Kendall showing signs of mutilation, WPLG-TV, Miami, reported Sunday.

"Our communities of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay have been on edge for many weeks now because of the horrific and unspeakable slaughterings of many of their beloved feline pets," State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in an announcing the arrest.

"My heart goes out to the pet owners who have suffered such a great loss," Fernandez Rundle said.
