No leads a year after Okla. girls slain

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 8 (UPI) -- One year after two young Oklahoma girls were gunned down as they walked along a lonely country road, no solid clues have emerged in the case, police say.

Taylor Paschal-Placker, 13, and her best friend Skyla Jade Whitaker, 11, died after being shot multiple times the afternoon of June 4, 2008, less than a half mile from Taylor's rural Weleetka, Okla., home. Officials said Monday they still have no leads as far as a motive or perpetrators, CNN reported.

While Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Jessica Brown said authorities have collected "good evidence" from the scene, they lack crucial information that could connect the crime to anyone.

"If we could get this one piece of evidence that would help solve this case, that's what we need," Brown told reporters. "What we are frustrated about is the lack of cooperation we're getting from members of the public," noting that a $36,000 reward being offered for information that leads to a conviction has gone unclaimed.

Two guns were used to shoot the girls a total of 13 times, raising the possibility that more than one assailant could be involved, CNN reported.
