Popular Chinese anchorman dies

BEIJING, June 5 (UPI) -- China's official state-run news agency is reporting the death of popular prime time anchorman Luo Jing of China Central Television.

Luo died of lymphoma Friday morning, Beijing time, at the age of 48, China's Xinhua news agency said.

"He was absolutely one of the best anchormen in the country," said colleague Apple Li.

Luo joined CCTV's evening news service after graduating from the Communication University of China in 1983.

During his 20 years on television, Luo was known for his mellow voice and solemn style of delivering the news.

Luo has been married since 1988. He and his wife have a 14-year-old son.
