ST. LOUIS, June 4 (UPI) -- Activists say convicted killer Reginald Clemons should not be executed for the killings of two University of Missouri-St. Louis students.
With Clemons' execution scheduled to take place in less than two weeks, his lawyers and anti-death penalty activists are urging Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to spare his life, the St. Louis (Mo.) Post-Dispatch said Thursday
Actor Danny Glover is among those activists calling for clemency for Clemons, who was convicted in 1993 of killing Julie Kerry, 20, and her sister Robin, 19.
"Something is wrong when the state murders its own citizens," the "Lethal Weapon" star said at a Kennerly Temple Church of God in Christ gathering Wednesday.
A lawyer for Clemons, 37, has argued his client should have been spared the death penalty due to questionable details of his trial.
The Post-Dispatch said attorney Andrew M. Lacy insists Clemons was not the main perpetrator in the 1991 killings. Lacy alleges Antonio Richardson, who is serving life in prison, was the main instigator of the rape and killing of the two sisters.
