Clinton to receive honorary Yale degree

HARTFORD, Conn., May 25 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to receive an honorary degree from Yale University, the former senator's alma mater.

The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported that Yale University President Richard Levin said Clinton has brought attention to healthcare, education and women's and children's rights.

"Through hard work, forceful advocacy and an impressive grasp of the issues, you earned the respect of your colleagues in the Senate and the admiration of your constituents," Levin said. "We have known of your brilliance from your days as a student in the Yale Law School."

Clinton earned her law degree at Yale. She was elected to the U.S. Senate from New York in 2000, re-elected in 2006 and sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.
