Uribe shying away from third term

BOGOTA, May 23 (UPI) -- Colombian President Alvaro Uribe says it would be inappropriate for him to seek a third term next year.

However, he did not flatly rule out a run for re-election, the Latin American Herald Tribune.

Uribe said at a business forum in Bogota Thursday that the South American nation "has a lot of good leaders" and that it would be inappropriate" for him to run again.

His remarks came just two days after the Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of legislation setting up a referendum on whether the Constitution should be changed to allow him to run again.
