BELGRADE, Serbia, May 18 (UPI) -- Serbian gay and lesbian groups said Monday a gay "pride parade" should be canceled because most citizens oppose the event and many fear violence could erupt.
In a statement to the media, the Info Center of gay and lesbian organizations said the groups would like to have the parade delayed until next year.

The center said a recent public survey showed a majority of people were opposed to the event, known as a "pride parade," if they expected violent incidents could occur.
Some Serbian Web sites have already begun publishing what the center described as "counter-parades" on Internet.
