WASHINGTON, May 18 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., 91, has been admitted to a Washington hospital suffering from an infection, a spokesman said Monday.

The spokesman told The (Charleston, W.Va.) State Journal that the longest-serving U.S. senator was admitted to the hospital late Friday after his body temperature spiked.
