Saudi crown prince recuperating in Morocco

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, May 2 (UPI) -- The octogenarian crown prince of Saudi Arabia is recuperating in Morocco after an operation in New York, the Saudi Press Agency said Saturday.

The government news agency did not say what kind of surgery was performed on Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, CNN reported. The prince has been in Agadir since Wednesday.

Sultan, who is also deputy prime minister, is heir to his half-brother, King Abdullah. In late March, the king named another half-brother, Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, as second deputy prime minister, encouraging rumors that Sultan's health was failing.

Nayef has tried to squelch the rumors.

"I would like to assure you that the crown prince's health is very good," he said in March, the Arab News said. "God willing, after the medical vacation he will return to the kingdom in full health."
