China says it developed fast flu test

BEIJING, April 30 (UPI) -- China has developed an efficient means to diagnose instantly the presence of H1N1 flu, commonly called swine flu, Health Minister Chen Zhu said Thursday.

Chen said the new detection method will be installed at the country's center for disease control and prevention offices at all levels, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

Experts and scientists from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences worked with counterparts from the United States and the World Health Organization in the research, Chen said.

As soon as China learned of the warning from the WHO about the possible worldwide outbreak of the strain, research began on developing an effective diagnostic tool to provide quick detection, Chen said.

Li Dexin, a CDC official, told Xinhua that companies capable of producing a vaccine were ordered to prepare for production.
