CAMDEN, N.J., April 28 (UPI) -- Three Albanian immigrants were sentenced to life in federal prison Tuesday for their part in a plot to attack soldiers at Fort Dix in southern New Jersey.
Eljvir, Dritan and Shain Duka told a judge in U.S. District Court in Camden they are innocent, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. The brothers and two other defendants who were scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, were found guilty after an eight-week trial.
The judge gave Dritan and Shain Duka additional 30-year sentences on weapons charges.
The jury acquitted the three brothers of attempted murder. But they were convicted of conspiracy to commit terrorism.
The Duka brothers, who lived in Cherry Hill, N.J., until their arrest in 2007, entered the United States illegally with their parents in 1984.
The federal investigation began after a clerk at a Circuit City store in South Jersey reported that he had been given a video that showed men shooting semi-automatic weapons while shouting "God is great" in Arabic.
