N. Korea to try U.S. journalists

SEOUL, April 24 (UPI) -- Two U.S. journalists arrested near the border between China and North Korea are to stand trial in Pyongyang, North Korean news agencies said Friday.

Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who work for Current TV, have been held by North Korea since March 17.

The report by KCNA, a state-run news agency, said the government has "completed its investigation," The New York Times reported. The report did not say what the charges would be, but in the past officials have accused the two women of "illegal entry" and "hostile acts."

Ling and Lee were in China reporting on North Korean refugees. Current TV, based in San Francisco, is a cable TV network started in 2005 by former Vice President Al Gore and Joel Hyatt.

Since the journalists were arrested, the relationship between the United States and North Korea has become more tense. After the April 5 North Korean rocket launch, Pyongyang responded to a U.N. statement on sanctions by ordering nuclear inspectors out of the country.
