Wreckage of crashed plane located in Papua

JAKARTA, April 18 (UPI) -- Indonesian investigators spotted the wreckage of a crashed plane on a mountainside in Papua during an air search Saturday.

The Mimika Air plane is believed to have been carrying 11 people when it went down Friday. Nine passengers and two pilots were all killed in the crash, the Antara news agency reported. The crash site on Mount Gergaji was close to the place where a Trigana Air plane went down in 2006, killing the nine people on board.

The plane took off from Mulia at 10:15 a.m. Friday for a half-hour flight to Ilaga.

The pilot who spotted the wreckage said it was still smoking.

The crash was the second fatal one in Papua in less than two weeks. Six people died when a cargo plane went down early this month.
