TORONTO, April 6 (UPI) -- Toronto police cut short a demonstration by about 30 pro-Palestinian Jews calling for a boycott of kosher Israeli wines outside a liquor store.
Police asked the Not In Our Name Jewish group critical of Israel's handling of the Palestinian situation to disband a half-hour earlier than they planned Sunday afternoon as heckling from pro-Israeli Jews was mounting, the Toronto Sun reported Monday.
Jews have begun stocking up on wine and foods for this week's observation of Passover on Thursday.
One of the protesters, Smadar Carmon told the Sun some of the taunts were that she was a self-hating Jew.
"I care a lot about what my fellow Israelis are doing these days, she said. "I think it's not good for anybody -- not good for the Israelis and definitely not good for the Palestinians."
Meanwhile, staff at the liquor store said despite the protest, its entire stock of 150 cases of kosher wines sold out Sunday, the Sun said.
