Mother banned from son's graduation

PARK HILLS , Ky., March 31 (UPI) -- A convicted sex offender in Kentucky will not be allowed to attend her son's high school graduation in May, officials said.

Jeni Lee Dinkel, 53, was told in a letter this month that Covington Catholic High School and the Diocese of Covington won't allow her to attend graduation events with her family.

Church officials have barred her from attending the graduation Mass, the baccalaureate luncheon and

commencement, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Tuesday.

Dinkel, the wife of former Bengals linebacker Tom Dinkel, pleaded guilty about two years ago to third-degree rape for having sex with a 15-year-old friend of her son, Alex. She was sentenced to 60 days in jail, given probation for five years and ordered to register as a sex offender for 20 years.

The school officials' letter was in response to a letter from Dinkel that said she had her probation officer's permission to attend her son's graduation events.

"After giving this matter careful consideration, we have decided that, due to the communal nature of the graduation events, there is no acceptable way of allowing you to attend without adversely affecting other families and participants," the letter from the Diocese of Covington said.

The letter offered a warning to Dinkel should she decide to show up at the events, the newspaper reported.

"If you do appear for the graduation events despite this notice, the security guards and/or police will have instructions to enforce our directive and remove you, if necessary," the letter said.
