DALLAS, March 30 (UPI) -- The wife of running back Ryan Moats says she wants a personal apology from a Dallas police officer who detained her at gunpoint while her mother lay dying.
Tamishia Moats, her husband and two other relatives were driving with hazard lights on to Baylor Regional Medical Center when Officer Robert Powell pulled them over outside the hospital, The Dallas Morning News reported Monday.
"I was afraid for her because he was pointing a gun at her," Ryan Moats told ABC News in a story aired Monday.
Powell, who since has been placed on leave, allegedly berated the Moats for rolling through a red light en route to the hospital March 17.
Despite the couple's pleas to get to the hospital because Tamishia Moats' mother was dying of cancer, Powell detained them for 13 minutes, threatening them with arrest, Ryan Moats said, noting his mother-in-law died before they could see her.
Powell has apologized through his lawyer but the Moats said seek a more personal apology.
"We definitely would accept his apology, said Tamishia Moats, whose husband plays for the Houston Texans of the National Football League.
