Briton killed by suspected pirates

KOH DONG, Thailand, March 24 (UPI) -- A British man sailing in Thailand has been murdered by pirates who were attempting to take his boat, officials said.

The Daily Mail reported Tuesday that Malcolm Robertson and his wife Linda were on their yacht near the island of Koh Dong when pirates struck.

Robertson, 64, was beaten to death before his body was thrown overboard. His wife reportedly suffered minor injuries. She is being treated at a hospital in Satun, the newspaper reported.

"They wanted the dinghy and started hitting Malc about the head," she reportedly told police.

Authorities have arrested three Burmese migrant workers on suspicion of Robertson's murder.

"They tried to steal the dinghy and beat Mr. Robertson with their fists and hammers until he died," Police Col. Virat Ohn-song, chief of the La-ngoo district police station, said.

'We believe from our interview with his wife Mr. Robertson was dead before he was thrown into the water. This is bad. Very bad," the official added.
