Suspected gunman shot in Nevada hospital

HENDERSON, Nev., March 11 (UPI) -- Authorities say a man allegedly threatened police Wednesday inside a hospital emergency room in Henderson, Nev., prompting officers to shoot and kill him.

Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul would not release the identity of the man killed in the emergency room of St. Rose Dominican Hospital-Siena Campus, only revealing the shooting victim was in his 40s, the Las Vegas Sun said.

Police were called to the emergency room early Wednesday morning for a man threatening to kill himself.

Responding officers attempted to calm the armed man down while evacuating hospital staff and patients, police said.

But the man, according to police, eventually pointed his weapon at the officers, forcing the law enforcement workers to shoot and kill him. No other injuries or fatalities were reported in relation to the incident.

The Sun said the shooting of the man, who was dressed in camouflage clothing, is under investigation.
