MIAMI, March 11 (UPI) -- A Miami judge said she issued an arrest warrant for a woman once accused of trying to kill her son who has disappeared from a psychiatric facility.
Abigail Drinks was acquitted by reason of insanity in a sensational 1992 trial in which she was accused of trying to kill her infant son five different times.
The Miami Herald said Wednesday that Drinks, 36, apparently walked away last week from a small treatment center where she had been living since her recent return from a Georgia facility.
''I'm not only worried about her but worried about our community,'' Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Ellen Sue Venzer told Miami-Dade police in a court conference call earlier this week, the Herald reported.
Drinks was arrested in 1992 when she told police she had had tried to smother her 6-month-old son to death on five separate occasions. The boy survived but suffered irreversible brain damage.
While Drinks' intentions or whereabouts were unknown Wednesday, police noted she had taken her belongings with her when she left.
