Home invaders terrorize Florida family

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 11 (UPI) -- Florida police are searching for three gunmen who terrorized a Jacksonville family before kidnapping the husband and placing him in the trunk of his wife's car.

Police said the 35-year-old longshoreman managed to escape from the car trunk after a friend drove by and honked just as the gunmen were leaving, The Florida Times-Union reported Wednesday.

When police arrived at the longshoreman's house they found his wife and five children tied up in a bedroom.

The police report did not shed any light on why the gunmen targeted the family, the newspaper says.

The report said the gunmen demanded money and one of them hit the longshoreman in the head with a pistol.

The incident occurred Sunday night.
