MONTVILLE, Conn., March 9 (UPI) -- Connecticut police say they're investigating whether a driver charged in the death of a college student had been drinking at the nearby Monhegan Sun casino.
Daniel Musser was charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol following a head-on collision Saturday in which his car hit a van carrying Connecticut College students on their way to Africa to distribute medical supplies, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported Monday.
The accident, near the exit for the casino, killed Elizabeth Durante and injured seven other students in the van.
Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell said the accident is making her "rethink" a proposal to extend drinking hours at casinos to 24 hours a day. "It does give one pause to question the wisdom of extending liquor service hours," Rell said.
Musser, who also was injured, is a machinist's mate from Missouri stationed at the submarine base in Groton, Conn.
