Britain condemns cricket team attack

LAHORE, Pakistan, March 3 (UPI) -- Britain Tuesday condemned an attack on Sri Lanka's cricket team in Pakistan as a "grotesque violation" while others called it a grim day for the sport.

British Minister for Culture, Media and Sport, Andy Burnham told the BBC the shootings in Lahore, Pakistan, was a "grotesque violation" while former England all-rounder and television commentator Dominic Cork said Pakistan should be banned from hosting international cricket tournaments.

Cork told The Times of London that the assault, in which five police officers were killed and eight cricketers wounded during an attack on the Sri Lankan national team's bus, that former England opener Chris Broad had been caught up in the attacks while traveling in a car behind the team bus.

"He (Broad) said it was the most frightening experience of his life," Cork told The Times. "Their driver was shot and they had to ask a policeman to drive them to the stadium," and adding, "I won't be coming back here while I'm still living, there is no chance. I don't think international cricket should return to this country."
